The Narayanganj district holds the distinction of being the oldest and smallest district in Bangladesh, situated within the Dhaka division. The Narayanganj district is situated alongside the Shitalakshya river and is renowned for its production of jute fibers.

Tourist Places in Narayanganj:
1. Sonargaon:

Sonargaon, which is commonly referred to as The Golden Village, served as the capital of medieval Bengal. During that period, it served as a significant center for both administrative and commercial activities. During the medieval era, it served as the epicenter of mint production.
Sonargaon functioned as the political center of eastern Bengal during different reigns, commencing from the 13th century. During the mid-13th century, the Hindu Deva dynasty designated it as their capital. Shortly thereafter, Muslim authorities took over and declared it as their capital.
2. Panam Nagar/পানাম নগর:

Panam City is commonly known among Bangladeshis as a “lost city.” This particular location is widely recognized as a prominent tourist attraction in Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The city of Sonargaon was built on an estimated land area of 20 square kilometers. Around 2006, the World Monuments Fund initiated the construction of roughly one hundred historical edifices in Panam Nagar.
Panam Nagar, an ancient site, is situated within the jurisdiction of Sonargaon police station in the Narayanganj district, in proximity to Dhaka. The establishment of Sonargaon as the inaugural capital of Bengal is attributed to Isha Khan during the 15th century. Panam Nagar is a site of historical significance located in Narayanganj. The city of Panam is surrounded on all boundaries by the Pankhiraj canal. The confluence of the Pankhiraj canal and the Meghna river, which is alternatively referred to as the Menikhali River, occurs at a particular location.
The city of Panam is situated between the Meghna river to the east and the Shitalakshya river to the west. The river in question served as a conduit for the exportation of muslin. Following the entry point of Panama City lies a colossal gate that undergoes closure during sunset. Currently, it is prohibited for any visitor to stay in Panama City beyond sunset.
The city of Panama exhibits a discernible architectural style in its diverse constructions. Every urban center belonging to the affluent stratum during that period exhibits exquisite artwork and a touch of aristocracy. There are approximately 52 structures situated on either side of the road that traverses the central area of the city.
The northern side of the major road comprises 31 structures, while the southern side is home to 21 structures. These buildings comprise of either two or three stories situated on a single level. Apart from the residential edifices, the urban area encompasses a diverse array of architectural structures such as mosques, churches, temples, monasteries, dance halls, chitrasalas, pathshala, khajanchikhanas, darbar rooms, old museums, baths, and concealed passageways.
Within this location, there exists a mint house that has been in existence for four centuries and a Neelkuthi constructed by the East India Company.
Panam Nagar entry fee:
To access Panam City, a Tk. 15 ticket must be cut. To visit the museum, tickets must be purchased for Rs 30 per person. Every Wednesday and Thursday, the museum is closed.
3. Taj Mahal in Bengal/বাংলার তাজমহল

The Taj Mahal was built by Ahsan Ullah Mani, a Narayanganj industrialist and filmmaker. The Second Taj Mahal of Bengal, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, has been constructed in the village of Perab, Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj district, Bangladesh, similar to the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Visitors visiting the Taj Mahal in Bengal can snap photographs at the Rajmani Film City Studio and Rajmani Film City Restaurant.
In December 2008, the Taj Mahal was opened to the public after its construction began in 2003. The construction of the Taj Mahal in Bengal strives to meet the same high standards as the original structure. The primary structure is crafted from translucent, costly stones.
Ahsan Ullah Mani and his wife are entombed within the Taj Mahal. In addition, similar to the Taj Mahal in Agra, there are four minarets at each corner of the main structure, as well as water basins and floral gardens in front.

The Way of going To the Taj Mahal:
The distance from Dhaka to the Taj Mahal in Bengal is only 30 kilometers. On a bus to Comilla, Daudkandi, or Sonargaon on the Dhaka-Chittagong route, you can come to the Madanpur bus terminal and visit the Taj Mahal price Tk. 40-45 per person in CNG or autorickshaw.
The 300 feet road can be disregarded, and from there, you can take the Autorickshaw Reserve to the Taj Mahal for a charge of Tk. 100- 120.
Besides, you can get to the Taj Mahal in Bengal by going to Bhairab, Narsingdi, or Kishoreganj by bus from the Dhaka-Sylhet highway by name at Barpa bus terminal.

Entry Price: The entrance fee of the Taj Mahal and the pyramid has to be paid together.
Only the Taj Mahal and the pyramids are not free accessible. The admission cost is Tk 150 per person.
4. Zinda Park/জিন্দা পার্ক:

Zinda Park is one of Narayanganj, Dhaka’s most popular tourist destinations. Zinda Park is situated in the Dawoodpur union of the Narayanganj district and has over 150 areas.

The most convenient and scenic route to Zinda Park is along the Purbachal Highway on Kuril Vishwaroad, which is 300 feet from from Zinda Park.
Take the Kuril Vishwaroad train line from the Dhaka city bypass and purchase a Tk 30 ticket for the Kuril Railway Bridge at the BRTC kiosk.
Just before the Kuril Railway Bridge, on the left side, is Zinda Park. From the bypass intersection before Kanchan Bridge, the daily autorickshaw fare to Zindapark is 30 taka.
On the 300-foot-long route, you can reach Kanchan Bridge by local CNG, local private automobile, or leguna for Tk 50 to 60 each person.
You can also book CNG or autorickshaws from Kuril 300 feet road and travel directly to Zinda Park.

6. Murapara Zamindar House/মুড়াপাড়া জমিদার বাড়ি

Murapara Zamindar bari or Matherghat Zamindar house is a 100-year-old zamindar home in Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj. It is a renowned tourist destination in Dhaka’s Narayanganj neighborhood. The homes of once-disputed zamindars have been identified as archaeological relics of Bangladesh.
This zamindar residence, which was built by Babu Ramratan Banerjee in 1889 on 62 bighas of land, has been refurbished on multiple occasions. Among the surviving zamindar residences, it is among the most spectacular. Murapara could be the best option for a day-to-day outing or excursion.
Babu Ramratan Banerjee’s successors have, at various times, dug ponds and constructed high-rises at the front and back of the main building.
The Murapara zamindar mansion consists of 95 rooms, temples, valuables, kasari houses, guesthouses, and conference spaces. The entry is marked with a colossal gate that hints at the nature of the location.
In addition, the temple’s peak is thirty feet tall.
After the 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent, the zamindar family abandoned their home. In 1948, the Pakistani government established a juvenile detention facility and hospital at this location.
Later in 1966, the structure was utilized for school and college management. The Murapara Zamindar House was classified as an archaeological site by the Bangladesh Department of Archaeology in 1986. Presently, a college has been created at Murapara Zamindar House, named as Government Murapara College.

The Way of going To Murapara Zamindar Bari:
You must take a Meghla, ASIAN, or glory bus from the Saidabad, Gulistan, or Jatrabari bus terminal in Dhaka to the Bhulta or Rupsi bus stand.
Arrive in Bhulta via bus to Narsingdi and Bhairava, then take a rickshaw or CNG for Tk 25 per person to the Murapara Zamindar residence.
Kuril, on the other hand, traveled from the bottom of the flyover to Kanchan Bridge for Tk 65 each passenger. Near Kanchan Bridge, for Tk. 50 per person, you can access Rupganj Shitalakshya Ferryghat, cross the ferry, and reach the zamindar’s residence via rickshaw or vehicle.
7.Sonakanda Fort/সোনাকান্দা দুর্গ

Sonakanda Fort is said to be one of three water forts constructed near Dhaka in 1960 to safeguard the Bengal Subedar at the time, Mir Joomla, against pirate raids on Bengal’s major towns. Sonakanda Fort is a historic water fort situated east of the Shitalakshya River in the Bandar Upazila of the Narayanganj district.
This fort was utilized at that time by Isha Khan, one of the heroes of Baro Bhuia in Bengal. This Mughal-era fort is surrounded by several legends. It is said that Isha Khan kidnapped queen Swarnamayi Langalbande as she was receiving a sacred bath at Swarnamayi Langalbande in order to rescue king Kedar Roy and return her to him.
Swarnamayi was no longer taken back, purportedly because she had lost her caste as a result of her night spent in the Muslim forbidden.
Since then, the golden-obsessed Isha has occupied the tabu of the khan. Sonar Kanda or Sonakanda Fort is thought to have been named in his honor.
The inner and outside diameters of the quadrilateral-shaped fort, which spans a distance of approximately 2 kilometers, are respectively 15.70 meters and 19.35 meters and are surrounded by 6.09-meter-long high-security walls.
The fort features a massive cannon platform and a northward access arcade.
Two significant features of the fort are the massive self-defense wall and the high platform on the west side that defends against water attacks.
Numerous fire pits and altars are situated in the wall’s center of the fort. The Bangladesh Department of Archaeology and Museums is currently responsible for its preservation.

8. Hajiganj Fort/হাজীগঞ্জ দুর্গ

Hajiganj is one of the three water forts or Treanjal of water forts constructed in the 17th century to defend against the Portuguese Magand pirates after Islam Khan of Mughal Subadar moved the Mughal capital to Dhaka.
Hajiganj Fort, located on the banks of the Shitalakshya River near Hajiganj in the Narayanganj district, is a historical water defensive system constructed during the Mughal era.
At the time, Hajiganj was known as Khijirpur, hence many people refer to it as Khijirpur Fort. The Hajiganj Fort is an excellent destination for visitors to Narayanganj to learn about the past.
Sonakanda Fort and Idrakpur Fort make up the remaining two forts. By car, Dhaka is approximately 15 kilometers from Hajiganj Fort.
There are variations in the Hajiganj fort’s building timeframe. According to some, the fort was constructed about 1610 A.D. Others believe it was built between the years 1650 and 1660.
The length and width of Hajiganj fort are 250 meters and 200 meters, respectively.
There are bullet holes and four burujs at each corner of the five-house boundary wall. There are also stairs to ascend the wall and a gun mounted in an observation tower in one of the corners.
This Hajiganj fort was listed in 1950 by the Bangladesh Department of Archaeology, rebuilt in stages, and given its current appearance. The Hajiganj Fort is one of the must-see attractions in Narayanganj, Dhaka.

9. Satgram Zamindar Bari/সাতগ্রাম জমিদার বাড়ি

The historic Satgram Zamindar Bari is situated in the Araihazar upazila of the district of Narayanganj. The famous Satgram Zamindar Bari was constructed under the reign of the British.
The zamindars governed the region from this zamindar residence. From this zamindar’s residence, the zamindars governed the region. Satgram’s zamindars were quite oppressive.
If a person was unable to repay the debt owed to the zamindars, he or she would be subjected to torture. And there are several tales of the zamindar’s oppression associated with each edifice of the Satgram zamindar residence.

10. Barudi Loknath Ashram/বারুদী লোকনাথ আশ্রম

Sri Sri Loknath Bramhachari Ashram, also known as Bardi Loknath Ashram, is situated near the west-northwest corner of Bardi Bazar in Sonargaon upazila, 34 kilometers from Narayanganj district. Loknath Brahmachari was born on 31 August 1730 in the village of Kachua in the 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, under the jurisdiction of the Barasat police station.
He renounced the scriptures, took the vow of abstinence, and did rigid yoga in the Himalayas. Later, he imparted information among the local populace by going out into the community. Loknath Brahmachari established this ashram in the village of Bardi in 1863, following his travels throughout the world and arrival in Sonargaon.
The noble man Loknath Brahmachari passed away on June 1, 1890, after approximately 22 years of worship. The Bardi Loknath Ashram is renowned as a location where individuals of all castes, creeds, and creeds can congregate.
A large oil painting of Loknath Brahmachari may be found inside the ashram. There are three overnight accommodations available for passengers.
The death anniversary of the great man Loknath Brahmachari is commemorated annually with 19 Jaistha Tirohdhan festivities, religious rites, and week-long fairs.

11. Mary Anderson/ম্যারি এন্ডারসন

Mary Anderson Floating Restaurant and Bar is a floating restaurant and bar operated by Bangladesh Tourism Corporation in Narayanganj Sadar on the river Buriganga.
State Yacht Mary Anderson was the original name of this floating restaurant. In 1933, a 150-foot-long ship powered by steam was constructed at the Calcutta Shipyard for use by British governors in Bengal. Mary Anderson, daughter of then-Governor of Bengal Sir John Anderson, is thought to have inspired the ship’s name.
According to tourist corporation sources, during her visit to Bangladesh in 1918, Queen Elizabeth of England gifted the ship in Queen Mary’s honour.
Since that time, the governors of East Bengal have employed Mary Anderson. After 1971, Bangladeshi heads of state were granted exclusive usage of Mary Anderson. Under the direction of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, the ship began its voyage as a floating restaurant on September 24, 1978.
The cost of a night’s stay in an air-conditioned accommodation at the old British Pramod is about Tk 3,000 at present. And if you wish to rent a room on an hourly basis, you’ll need to pay Tk 800.
Mary Anderson’s restaurant dinner, which serves as an introduction to the river, is situated in the center of the river.
Just 20 kilometers from Dhaka, the Mary Anderson floating restaurant has become a popular tourist attraction.

12. Flower Garden Sabdi/ফুলের বাগান সাবদি

From Dhaka, Sabdi in the district of Narayanganj is an interesting destination. In the winter, the fields of the village of Sabdi are brimming with mustard flowers. Various sorts of flowers, including rose, marigold, gladiolus, tuberose, gerbera, cosmos, daisy gypsy, dahlia, and chrysanthemum, are also cultivated here in February.

13. Kadam Rasul Darbar Sharif

The Kadam Rasul Darbar Sharif is situated in the Nabiganj neighborhood, directly across from the city of Narayanganj. A steep hill must be climbed to reach the dargah. The Dargah’s entrance is marked by a massive archway.
In his famous work ‘Bahir-Sthanai Ghayebi’, written in the 17th century, the historian Mirza Nathan first described the stone of Kadam Rasool’s Dargah. Afghan army chief Masum Khan Kabuli, who proclaimed revolt against Emperor Akbar in 1580, purchased from an Arab merchant a stone showing the Prophet Muhammad’s footprints (Peace be upon him).
In 1777-1778, the Zamindar of Dhaka, Golam Nabi, constructed a single-domed dargah on a hilltop near Nabiganj and deposited the sacred stone there. His name became Rasool afterwards. Ghulam Muhammad, the son of Ghulam Nabi, constructed the Dargah’s main entrance in 1814.

14. Sheikh Russell Park

15. Maya Dwip/মায়াদ্বীপ

Maya Dwip is a lonely char region encircled by the Meghna river in the Bardi union of Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj. In the middle of the indomitable Meghna River, a triangular-shaped char rises to the surface. The island is not very large, yet it is verdant all around.
Maya Dwip is an alternative name for nature-loving visitors near Dhaka who like to spend the afternoon with loved ones. When you visit Maya Dwip Char, do not remain there after dusk. Mayadeep, which is surrounded by vegetation, will induce a tranquil sense of the ground.
Open wilderness, wind blowing parallel to the river’s waves, and a drunken afternoon combine to make this char a magical mansion surrounded by illusion.
The Way of going To Maya Dwip:
Gulistan travels from Dhaka to the Sonargaon crossroads of Mograpara via AC or non-AC bus Doel, Swadesh, or Borak.
From the Mogpara crossroads, you must arrive at the Boidder market boat ghat by battery-powered autorickshaw or CNG. Boidder Bazar Ghat boat rentals would cost between Tk 1,000 and Tk 1,500 per day.
16. Gwaldi Mosque/গোয়ালদি মসজিদ

The historically significant Gwaldi Mosque is situated in Sonargaon Upazila of the Narayanganj district. The Gwaldi Mosque, built in the village of Gwaldi in the municipality of Sonargaon during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Hossain Shah, is a renowned tourist attraction.
Bengal flourished in the arts, education, and literature throughout the reign of Alauddin Hossain Shah. According to legend, mullah Hizabar Akbar Khan constructed the iconic Gwaldi Mosque around 1519.
The mosque has five entrances with arches. And the main entrance is positioned in the middle mihrab made of straight black stone. The remaining two mihrabs are made from mehreb brick. The surface area of the Gwaldi Mosque is 7.92 square meters, while the thickness of the surrounding walls is 1.50 meters.
Since 1975, the Bangladesh Department of Archaeology has been responsible for the upkeep and general administration of historic mosques. The terracotta design of the Gwaldi Mosque mirrors that of Sultan Gias Uddin Shah of Sonargaon. The distinctiveness of this Gwaldi mosque is due to the exquisite terracotta decorations etched into the mosque’s sturdy brick exterior.
How to reach the Gwaldi Mosque
From Dhaka’s Gulistan, you can take an air-conditioned Doel, Swadesh, or Borak bus to the Mograpara intersection and then a battery-powered car or rickshaw for Tk. 10 to Tk. 30.

Jyoti Basu was born in Kolkata on July 7, 1914. He is a prominent Indian politician and former chief minister of West Bengal. His father, Dr. Nisikanta Bose, was a resident of Bardi Union, Sonargaon upazila, in the district of Narayanganj. Jyoti Basu’s ancestral home is located in Chowdhury Para, Bardi Union, approximately 20 kilometers from the capital city of Dhaka.
During his 1999 trip to Bangladesh, Jyoti Basu stated a wish to transform his family home into a library. This wonderful leader, who was a true friend to Bengalis, died on January 17, 2010. To honor his memory, the honorable prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, announced plans to convert the residence into a library. Currently, it serves as a library and tourist information center.
