On the Shitalakshya River bank, built in 1963, the St. Nicholas Church is Bangladesh’s largest Christian missionary church. It is also very old.

It was done in 1984, when a bilingual Bible from the St. Nicholas Church in Kaliganj was translated into the native Bengali language there. This church even made the first bilingual dictionaries and books of prose for people to read.

Emperor Jahangir asked for the church to be built after the Portuguese Christians left their hideouts in the late 16th century.

Later, in 1988, a new church was built by Bangladeshi artisans who used European architecture. The roof of the church, which is made of two different types of architecture, is made up of six ash corner semi-Gothic styles.

Twelve iron posts hold each lock in place on each of the church’s four doors. It stands guard in front of the main entrance.

Architecture styles in this house include an expansive verandah, a prayer room for exhortation and prayer space for worship. It also has three semi-circular doors and a Mediterranean design.

During World War I, the church opened an elementary school. It has now been turned into a lower secondary school for English lessons.
