History of Honda Motor Co.
As a result of the Second World War, the Japanese Ministry of Commerce and Industry assumed control of Soichiro’s manufacturing company, Tkai Seiki, and Toyota acquired a 40-percent ownership. As a result, Soichiro was demoted from the position of president of the firm to that of senior managing director.
However, Soichiro continued to cultivate personal contacts with technical people at Toyota, Nakajima Aircraft, and the Imperial Japanese Navy. To support the war effort, he continued to help other industrial firms automate and manufacture military aircraft propellers, etc.
When the Mikawa earthquake struck in January 1945, Soichiro Tkai Seiki’s Yamashita factory was destroyed by a US B-29 bomber raid. Ultimately, in October 1946, Soichiro Honda sold off what he could recover from the Toyota factories and established a new company, the Honda Technical Research Institute, which he later merged with his friend Takeo Fujisawa. From there, the HONDA narrative begins.
With a market capitalization of over $70 billion, Honda will be the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer by the end of 2019. On the basis of annual manufacturing volume, they are also the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines (ICE). Honda was the second-largest Japanese automaker in 2011 and the eighth-largest automaker in the world in 2015.
