All of the international milk related dishes are prepared with ingredients that are both fresh and genuine. Milk comes in many different forms, from dairy milk to pure milk to infant milk to liquid milk to milk powder to low-fat milk to chocolate milk to slim milk. The national demand for milk has increased significantly over the previous decade, with the current annual total demand estimated at around 152.02 lakh tons. The nation’s milk output has increased threefold over the past decade, which is good news because it now meets around two-thirds of the total demand.
However, only 10% of output is set aside for local milk brands, while the remaining 90% must be sold as soon as possible. There are now 14 legally recognized businesses in the market that produce and/or distribute dairy products such as milk and pasteurized foods. Market share is evenly split amongst Milk Vita, Aarong, and Pran, with a combined 80%. In addition, there are just a handful of other firms actively competing for market dominance. For the sake of this debate, “milk and dairy companies” refers to the most well-known brands of milk and dairy products in Bangladesh.

Milk Vita
Milk Vita is the largest dairy processor in the nation, producing more than 3 lakh litters of pasteurized and UHT (ultra-high temperature processing) milk every day. Among the other dairy products it produces are condensed milk, flavored milk, chocolate, yoghurt, mattha, sweets, and powdered milk.
The Bangladesh Milk Producers’ Cooperative Limited, a cooperative society governed by the Bangladeshi government, is the owner of Milk Vita. The company’s main goal is to produce, process, and market dairy and dairy products in Bangladesh with the goal of enhancing the economic and social position of small, marginal, and landless farmers.

It began operations in 1973 and today commands 70% of the market. The brand name “Milk Vita” refers to the company’s main product, liquid milk, as the name would imply. In addition to liquid milk, ghee, butter, ice cream, sweet yogurt, sour yogurt, cream, chocolate, and cloves, the company also sells a variety of dairy goods and spices.
In 1973, when Bangladesh became independent, Milk Vita production started. But the main step toward founding the National Nutrition Company was taken in 1947. The construction of a dairy plant was put on hold in the Sirajganj district’s Lahiri Mohanpur area, where the essential equipment had been imported. When the nation was divided in two in 1947, the program came to an end.
Later in 1948, Mukhlesur Rahman swapped assets to buy the factory. After being rebranded, the facility started producing Eastern Milk Products in 1952. These products were formerly offered for sale in Kolkata under the Milk Vita brand.
Later, in 1966, someone had the brilliant idea to form a society that produced primary milk via cooperatives. However, as the economy fluctuated, the factory’s output stopped once more in 1970.
The decision to construct the facility with support from the UNDP and the Danish International Development Agency (Danida) was made in 1973.
Aarong Dairy
Aarong Dairy was founded as part of a movement to help alleviate poverty in Bangladesh’s rural areas. This effort was made with the hope of helping local farmers improve cattle breeds in order to increase milk output.
Since its founding in 1998, Aarong’s dairy products have been sold under the BRAC Dairy label. The group set out to create a market for dairy producers in the countryside to increase their income. Demand for milk was typically low in rural areas, and farmers had access to reliable means of storing milk for long periods. As a result, they had to find a way to get rid of the extra milk or sell it at a loss.

By meeting the demand in metropolitan areas and paying fair prices to dairy farmers, BRAC Dairy is leading the charge to solve this problem. Aarong Dairy sells a wide variety of dairy products, from liquid milk to powdered milk to flavored beverages to yogurt to yogurt drinks to butter to ghee to cheese to candies.
The Director of Aarong, Mohammad Anisur Rahman, claims that Sir Fazle Hasan Abed conceived of the concept with the intention of ensuring that our farmers receive fair compensation for the milk they produce. In 1998, Aarong Dairy was founded, and its manufacturing was moved to the city of Gazipur. Following the gathering of the farmers, actions were taken to set up a feeding system and institute a milk collection procedure. Consequently, our management started the selling process.
Aarong claims that the corporation currently purchases 1,40,000 liters of milk each day. There are currently 28,000 farmers who are part of Aarong’s formal membership. Of the organization’s total of 139 ceiling centers, the vast majority (107) are considered to be proprietary mother plants.
The ceiling centers may hold anything from 2,000 to 5,000 liters of liquid. Maximum daily milk collection at our ceiling centers is 200,000 liters. He further noted that the current collection amount is 160,000 liters.
More than 20 different items, including pasteurized milk, ultra-high temperature milk, curd, ghee, and mattha, are manufactured by Aarong from the milk that is collected. Furthermore, he mentioned that there are 32 retail outlets from which to choose.
PRAN Dairy Ltd
Pran Dairy, established in 2001, has emerged as one of the leading corporations in the country. On a daily basis, the company collects and processes a total of 2.5 million liters of milk. The PRAN Group, which encompasses PRAN Dairy, holds the position of being the second-largest dairy products processor in the country. The company possesses a range of state-of-the-art facilities for the processing of UHT products, pasteurized yogurt, and powder. PRAN offers a diverse range of dairy products, including butter, cheese, milk, ghee, powdered milk, value-added milk, and yogurt.

Nevertheless, there have been concerns raised regarding the quality of PRAN Dairy. It is evident that, despite encountering various challenges, they have achieved a commendable level of success in exporting their products to multiple countries.
The five primary distribution centers for Pran Dairy are Chatmohar in Pabna, Gurudaspur in Natore, Shahjadpur and Baghabari in Sirajganj, and Rangpur. These nodes oversee a total of 101 milk collection and cooling centers.
The distribution hubs receive their milk supply directly from farms. There are 20 milk collection and chilling centers located underneath each node.
The company is engaged in the production of a diverse range of dairy products, including UHT and pasteurized liquid milk, powdered milk, ghee, butter, cheese, lassi, yoghurt, mattha, labang, cheese, and flavored milk.
There are reportedly 12,000 contract farmers who raise cows, according to officials.
The consumption of milk is on the rise, says Kamruzzaman Kamal, director of marketing at Pran RFL Group. The demand for processed milk is predicted to increase as a result of urbanization. Therefore, five additional nodes are planned to be created in the southwestern portion of the country to boost the development of this business.
We’re helping farmers increase milk production through various sorts of assistance and education. We help them get low-interest loans from Sonali Bank, Karmasangsthan Bank, and IFIC Bank so they may expand their farming operations.
Farm Fresh Milk
Akij Food and Beverage Limited’s dairy segment is known as Farm Fresh Milk. They usually collect milk from rural farms and put it through a series of processes before selling it. Farm Fresh buys milk from local farms without sacrificing quality thanks to in-house microbiological and adulteration testing. Additionally, the farm uses its state-of-the-art chilling equipment to cool the milk before transporting it in a temperature-controlled tanker to the Fresh Fresh factory. Milk isn’t the only dairy product that Farm Fresh offers; they also have yogurt, butter, ghee, and chocolate milk.

Akij Dairy Limited, a subsidiary of the Akij Group, made dairy industry investments in 2007. Every day, between 70,000 and 75,001 liters of milk are collected and processed. Products like pasteurized milk, flavored milk, UHT milk, powdered milk, yoghurt, and ghee are all available from the company under the Firm Fresh brand name. The company, like many others in the milk processing industry, markets repackaged powdered milk.
CEO and Managing Director Syed Alamgir says that at Akij Ventures Ltd., quality is prioritized over quantity. This explains the somewhat erratic growth of our markets.
Aftab Milk
Milk is pasteurized in the state-of-the-art Danish automatic milk pasteurization plant used by Aftab Milk and Milk Products Limited. An hourly output of 1,500 liters is achieved at the plant. In addition to helping farmers produce higher-quality goods and increase milk yields, the company offers them technical assistance.
Aftab Milk, however, is still a fledgling business with a long way to go before they reach their full potential. Only pasteurized milk, ghee, and yogurt are available from Aftab Milk.
