National Bank Limited was established as the first Bangladeshi-owned private bank. National Bank Limited has always been determined to play a vital role in the national economy. We are determined to bring back the lost flavors of banking. We wish to serve each one promptly and with dignity.

We now have 213 branches and 14 sub-branch. Moreover, we are constantly developing and extending our rural, SME, and offshore banking capabilities to accommodate new consumers.

The private sector entry of National Bank Limited was a significant event in Bangladeshi banking. During a terrible recession, the government wisely decided to let the private sector revitalize the country’s economy. Several innovative entrepreneurs proposed forming a bank to revive the country’s economy.

First international Master Card:

NBL also introduced the first international Master Card in Bangladesh. NBL has also launched the Visa Card and Power Card. The Bank uses the newest SWIFT and REUTERS IT services. NBL has continued its modest credit initiative to improve the livelihood of disadvantaged farmers in Barindra, Rajshahi district.

Record Growth:

NBL focused on capital adequacy, asset quality, management, profitability, and liquidity. As a result, the pre-tax profit increased by 175.51% to Tk. 8,809.40 million in the year under review. The net profit after tax and provision was Tk. 6,860.34 million, up from Tk. 2,070.47 million last year, a 231.34% increase. Total deposits climbed 33.37 percent to Tk 102,471.83 million. Loans and advances totaled Tk.92,003.56 million in the year under review, up Tk.65,129.289 million (41.26%).

Foreign trade:

In 2010, foreign trade climbed by 24.42 percent to Tk. 144,255.00 million from Tk. 115,939.00 million in 2009. In 2010, the bank received Tk 49,145.30 million, up 10.73 percent over 2009. Return on Equity (ROE) increased 77.84 percent year-on-year.

Corporate Social Responsibility:

The bank has always been conscious of its Corporate Social Responsibility. We have stayed involved in the growth of education, healthcare, and sporting and cultural activities. It created the National Bank Foundation in 1989 to continue its social welfare work. The foundation runs the 1140-student NBL Public School & College in West Dhanmondi. The bank has also provided financial assistance to the meritorious offspring of employees.
