A.K. Khan & Company Ltd. is one of Bangladesh’s oldest and most prestigious private sector organizations. Mr. Abul Kasem Khan, popularly known as A.K. Khan, founded the company in 1945, following the Second World War. Mr. A.K. Khan began his business in Chittagong, and after India and Pakistan separated in 1947, Chittagong grew to prominence as the country’s port city and commercial center.
Within a decade, A.K. Khan and Company Limited established itself as a major industrial powerhouse and significant contributor to the national economy.
Mr. A.K. Khan founded an insurance company, a financial institution, and manufacturing industries in textiles, jute, plywood, tanning, heavy electrical goods, shipping, and irrigation in the early 1950s. Since the 1980s, the company has grown through joint ventures with prominent multinational corporations in textiles, telecommunications, community-based water projects, and deep sea fishing.
The company currently intends to expand its operations in the hospitality sector, power generation, inland container terminals, textiles, real estate, and green jute pulp and paper manufacturing.
