Private sector-based

In the private sector, there are private medical colleges that provide undergraduate medical education and do research. It was the first private medical school in Bangladesh to receive government approval in 1986: Bangladesh Medical College of Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Due to the proliferation of such institutions, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare developed principles and guidelines for their establishment, activity, and management under which all colleges are required to include at least one 250-bed general hospital on their campus. Every college must also obtain clearance from the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and affiliation from a recognized institution in addition to the other requirements listed above.
