ResearchAndMarkets.com, a Dublin-based market research firm, predicted that the size of the worldwide e-commerce market in 2021 was approximately Tk56,870 crore and would increase to about Tk1.5 lakh crore by 2026.
There are more than 2,500 e-commerce platforms in Bangladesh, as stated in a report that was published by the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-Cab) the previous year. Of these, 1% are classified as large enterprises, 4% as medium firms, and 95% as small businesses. Some 1,600 e-commerce entrepreneurs were e-Cab members.
A representative from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) claims that almost 50,000 Facebook pages in Bangladesh are involved in retail and wholesale sales.
An official speculated that these Facebook-based businesses could generate as much as Tk10,000 crore in tax and VAT per year.
