You can discover many eye professionals in Bangladesh. Anyone who offers a service involving the eyes or vision is regarded to be an eye care specialist. It includes any healthcare professional who provides eye treatment, from those with only a few years of post-secondary education to doctors.
Two type Eye Doctors: Optometrists and Ophthalmologists
There are two main types of eye doctors: ophthalmologists and optometrists. Confused about which is which and who does what? Here’s a look at how they’re different. Keep in mind that these professionals can work together and that a team approach can be the best option for eye care.
Ophthalmologist: (Medical and Surgical Eye Care)
They completed medical college degree. They then had a one-year internship and a three-year residency. A fellowship of between one and two years may come after that.
They offer complete eye care services:
- Eye exams and other vision services
- Eye care from a doctor is needed for things like glaucoma, iritis, and chemical burns.
- Surgical eye care for injuries, crossed eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, and other problems.
- Diagnosis and treatment of eye problems associated with other diseases such as diabetes or arthritis.
- Raise drooping eyelids with plastic surgery or eliminate wrinkles
Optometrist (OD): Eye Care and Vision Care Services
Optometrists are in charge of primary eye care. After college, they completed four years in a professional program to obtain a doctorate in optometry. Following optometry school, some optometrists complete extra clinical training or a special fellowship. They concentrate on regular vision care and do the following:
- Inspect the eyes and the vision.
- Deliver eye care services, including the prescription and fitting of glasses and contact lenses.
- Keep an eye on your vision in case you suffer from a medical condition like diabetes.
- Take care of, and treat, problems including Dry Eye and glaucoma.
- Help those with vision impairment by providing low-vision devices and counseling.
- Your eye care may involve a teamwork between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist.
